THE LADY KILLER: Cee Lo Green's Soul Disco

Cee Lo Green is back with his new Album "The Lady Killer" Two Words... Soul Disco... Classic dance tracks and Funky Bass tracks!!! Put on your bell bottoms and afro wig with this one!!! My Absolute Favorite Track is actually his second single off the Album "Bright Lights, Bigger City"  I also love Wildflower, Bodies, and Love Gun ft. Lauren Bennett.  I would recommended that all you Lady Killers get this one to impress the ladies.  Just call this one a panty dropper... I guess now that Cee Lo is single he's feeling the fever again and who can blame him.. At least we get a great album like this one!! His amazing voice walks the line between Soul and Pop with the precision of a Circus Performer. Not to worry Hip Hop Heads Cee Lo recently announced that he will be doing another Goody Mob Album and Gnarls Barkley as well.. Those should be out sometime in the new year... Riding the success of The Lady Killer I'm sure they will be absolutely amazing!! Can't Wait!!

Mtv's Mixtape Daily Awards!! Who Made The Cut?

As we bring this year to an end fellow Hip Hop Heads, let us reflect on this incredible mixtapes that had us wakin and baken, Blowin Money Fast and had the kiddies yellin FLOOOOCKA out of their car windows... So here's the list and comments on a few that I couldn't stop bangin!  All I wanna know is where is SPITTA!! Curren$y Smokee Robinson deserves to be on this list! Or maybe I just think that because I'm a JET! haha

I'm very excited to see K.R.I.T on this list!! This mixtape caught my eye and opened up a refreshing new outlook on MC's from Mississippi.  (Finally The REAL from Mississippi! Big K.R.I.T http://t.co/n4zh3SS)

Chicago's very own L.E.P. Bogus Boys took the streets by storm with this one!! L.E.P. keeps it straight Chi-Town with a great mixture of smooth but hard hitting BEATS.  Giving you an everyday look into Chicago's HoodLife!

J.Cole Brought the REAL back. His Style and Sound is so original. This kid has a bright future ahead of him (Roc Nation: J.Cole bringing that REAL back http://jenniebeat.blogspot.com/2010/07/roc-nation-jcole-bringing-that-real.html)

Well Waka Flocka, everyone knows how I feel about this dude. He is definetly a sad exscuse for an "Artist" but the Kids Love him so Congrats on a "Great" year Waka even though you couldn't write a coherent sentence if your life depended on it.

Man Man Man, Wale went so Hard on this... I mean you can hear the spit on the mic! Definition of a muthafuckin MC! Classic Epic and all that other shit you wanna pound on this! AMAZING

Smoker's Choice Spitta's Pilot Talk II

After hearing Pilot Talk I wasn't sure if Curren$y could top it but he definitely did!! Pilot Talk II is definitely some of his best work!! On this album produced almost entirely by Ski Beatz, they brought that real Marijuana Music!! Classic Jazz sound mixed with Funky drums and just an all around soul vibe.  Not to mention Spitta's unique flow which rides the beats all the way till the end!! Which sometimes leave you looking for the "chorus" or "hook" but really who cares just burn one and you'll find it soon enough.

Staying Independent and Always keeping it "GEE" He brings his comrades in a tad bit more on this project.. with Tracks like "Flight Briefing" ft Young Roddy and Trademark Da Skydiver and with "Hold On" featuring the two as well and this track is produced by one of my favorite artist Nesby Phips.  Listening to this Album gives me the feeling of being in one of spitta's classic cars ridin, smokin, just livin that JETLIFE!! My absolute favorite cut is "FAMOUS" produced by Monsta Beatz!! Simply Classic! Smooth Jazz sound flowing through you to the core BURN TWO TO THIS! Smokers this album is your soundtrack..

"Famous"

"Flight Briefing"

"Michael Knight" (First Single)

Who Will Survive In America? Kanye The Revolutionary!

Well Hip-Hop Heads If you haven't heard My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, run to your nearest record store or to your computer and buy it now!! Don't walk!! RUN!! This album has restored my faith in this genius of a man! Mr. West!! He has definitely gone a little nuts but we need that don't we? This album is 14 tracks of Revolution!! Hip-Hop marching through the streets of America!! I love every track but I would have to say my top 5 are "Dark Fantasy" "All of the Lights" "Monster" "So Appalled" "Devil in a New Dress"  and of course "Lost In The World" which sparked me to write this This song damn near brought me to tears.  Yes TEARS! that's how much music can move a real lover like myself!! Kanye is fighting for us!! Everyone knows how I feel about this music industry, the Secret Society shit etc.. but pushing all that aside you cannot deny GOOD music and simple and plain that's what Kanye has Blessed us with!! On "Hell Of A Life he is clearly telling some bitch off!! You decide which one?

"I think I just fell in love with a porn starTurn the camera on, she a born star
Turn the corners in a foreign car
Call the coroners do the CPR
She gave that old nigga a ulcer
Her bitter sweet taste made his gold teeth fake, uh
Make her knees shake, make a priest faint, uh
Make a nun cum, make her cremate, uh
Move downtown, cop a sweet space, uh
Livin’ life like we won the sweepstakes, what!
We headin’ to hell for heaven’s sake, Huh!
Well I’mma levitate, make the devil wait, Yeah!"

Mr. West beautifully tells a story of shame, triumph and Revolution on this one. Not to mention some of the dopest beats I've ever had the pleasure of hearing!! Truly MAGNIFICENT!! Kanye co-producing every beat what else is to be expected but greatness!! Listening to it over and over and now of course I just hear the conviction in Kanye's delivery. As if he wants to say "I mean this bitch!" Every lyric every line is strategic and clever without trying to be, because its the truth! The beats are melodic but bring the boom!! The Congo's on Lost In The World damn near made me lose it!! Truly Amazing!! He is done being fucked with and out for blood!! Who Wants It??

Back To The Beat...

Well everyone I know I haven't written in a couple weeks. I've been inside my head too much, over thinking things and being over critical.  Lately my life has taken a little turn more like veered off the road. Sometimes life can throw you curves and you feel like what's the point of having passion? But that's just it, when you truly love to do something whether its writing a blog, music, or cooking passion is in control and you feel guilty without it. So back to the grind Not to fear I'm not in the ditch yet! I just need to get back to my BEAT and continue to listen to it... I love writing about Hip-Hop but I feel there is so much more I want to say! I've been so focused on profiling artists I haven't been speaking on the social issues I find important.  So I'm going to start a little side writing just to express myself.  I'm calling it StreetBeat yeah I know a little corny :) but ya gotta love it :) First post of StreetBeat coming shortly! To all my readers (if I have any) thanks for listening... IS ANYONE OUT THERE? If you guys have ANY issues you want me to discuss or touch on leave me a comment and I'll help you be heard!

Roc Nation: J.Cole Bringing That REAL Back!

I'm sure all you HipHop Heads are really diggin J.Cole right now!! He's got a crazy flow..and lyrically one of the best I've heard in a while! I really loved his mixtape (thanx to @chillchill24) The Warm Up. Now he's getting major play on MtvJams and has recently been Nominated MTV's "Hottest Breakthrough MC Of 2010"

In June he was selected as one of BET's rising icons, was featured on BET's Music Matters initiative, and performed at the BET Awards (Watch Here) He also won  Yo! Raps coveted "Artist to Watch in 2010 Award!! We all know recognition from BET is always good because they usually support a more commercial sound if you know what I mean.

J.Cole brings a fresh sound with an oldschool flair. I love how he keeps it funky but you still wanna shake ya ass to it.  He speaks the truth and keeps it conscious. Check out his bio, current news, photos and purchase his new single "Who Dat" @ http://www.jcolemusic.com/ and for your viewing pleasure check out the new video for "Who Dat" below!! This one is soooo EPIC!

Battle Of The Barbies

Since Nicki Minaj Exploded on the scene there has been constant comparison of her look to the Queen Lil Kim.  Now Ive gathered some images and you decide. Personally I think Nicki did swagger jack Kim for her style and the Barbie Gimic, which is kinda wack in the first place.  Both women are very sexually explicit in their lyrics and style and then compares themselves to the one toy that every little girl in the world is familiar with and loves!! Its very trashy if you ask me!! Anyway decide for yourselves!

Roc Nation:Who Is Range?

The newest artist signed to Roc Nation is Range.  He's a singer/songwriter who has written for some of the biggest acts in the business from Jennifer Lopez to T-Pain.  Now its his time to shine. His new mixtape hosted by DJ Drama is now available for  Download Here my fav tracks are "Try", "Nothing Wrong", and "As Is" Trey better watch out for this one! He's got a smooth tone mixed with amazing tracks that the club is gonna tear up! Not to mention his sex appeal, definitely easy on the eyes!

Currently preparing material for his Star Roc/Roc Nation debut Range feels he is constantly furthering his education in the rhythmic science of music. “I’m learning how to play guitar as well as studying how to engineer a record,” says Range. “Right now, I am constantly inspired.” ( read his full bio here) Check Out his new single "Ghetto Dance" ft Rick Ross

In Case You Missed It: Kanye West "Power" BET Awards

Kanye gave a very passionate performance of "Power" his first official single off his heavily anticipated album "Good Ass Job" due out September 14th.  Standing on Top of a man-made mountain/ volcano ( whichever you prefer), with beautiful images streaming on the screen behind him he definitely made the statement "I'm Back" Around his neck a huge Chain of Horus and on his hand a huge Pyramid Ring.  I pulled these images and explanation straight from Kanye's Blog

"Horus is one of the oldest and most significant deities in the Ancient Egyptian religion, who was worshipped from at least the late Predynastic period through to Greco-Roman times. Horus served many functions in the Egyptian pantheon, most notably being the god of the Sky, god of War and god of Protection."

So of course the bloggers are going nuts trying to figure out if him wearing this jewelry is a sign or if there is a bigger meaning to this performance and song.  I will keep my inner opinions to myself, however I do believe that there is a deeper meaning and from what I can tell from the performance and song lyrics Kanye Wants Out.  The Beat is Crazy hot and the drums are straight boombastic!! Kanye is definitely trying to make some sort of statement I just hope he doesn't lose everything he's worked for in the process

College Kid Fresh: Look Out For A.D.

I heard of this kid through a friend of mine.  His name is Alex "A.D." Davis and he is definitely someone to take a listen to.  His most recent work is The Blunt Chronicles a mixtape he says was made for the pot heads. With tracks like Mary Jane ft K. James (K.James Twitter) and Roll You Up ft Savage, L.B., and Brandon Bryant. Also  a dedication to his mother called Ain't No Woman I beg to differ I took a close listen and it definitely can appeal to other crowds.  Download The Blunt Chronicles A.D. flow is very natural and piercing with a range I haven't heard in a while.  He's very clever with the lyrics but is also very eloquent.

Currently a student at BGSU in Bowling Green,Ohio this soon to be college junior has a bright future and career ahead of him. Getting major buzz on the college scene and recently opening up for Wale at a concert on his campus He has this "College Kid" appeal kinda nerdy but still flyy!  He gets the party started but gets to class on time the next day quite baked though.  I cant quite pin his sound to a location because this guy is from all over.  As he told me during a quick interview:

"I was raised n Dayton, Ohio, but made in San Antonio, Texas....(he continues)  got family all over from new york to Cali lived n Washington Heights, New York this past may n now I'm staying down n D.C.for the remainder the summer."

Who are your influences? musically? What u listening to now?And who is your audience?

"I'm a big fan of Jadan D-Blocc, Nas, Dmx, 50, Wayne, J.cole, Wiz (Khalifa) that's wut i be listenin to as well (he laughs) My audience is anyone who like that feel good music."

If you could make a living independent like Curren$y or Wiz would u do it?

"I love it and that's all i wanna do is get paid to do shows n live good,I wanna be able to give all my music out for free and just get paid by promoters n club owners to perform.  I love my fans so I think they should receive the music for free, my music is my passion n I want other people to feel it"

That's real shit its nice to hear that...

"Just how I feel" (he laughs)

Anything coming up you want people to look out for?

"Rescue Me" mixtape comes out on 9/11/2010; MLH Studios(MLHStudioTwitter) is where I do all my recording" (located in BowlingGreen)

Everyone "Look Out For" Alex Davis he is sure to be on your screen and in your ipods soon!! I will be bringing you more "Look Out For" artists weekly!! M.I.A. on Goverment, New Album, and new Video "Born Free"

After reading two articles on M.I.A in the new issues of Nylon and Complex (on new stands now!) i got to thinking about how much i really want to hear some new music from her.  Her shit defines original!! funny how i learned of her, i first heard Paper Planes two months before it came out and took over the world! This little girl 11 years old was getting her hair braided by my best friend.  I kept hearing loud ass GUNSHOTS coming from her pink ear buds(she's a very flyy gurl HEEY Bre) i give my friend B the *side eye* thinking WTF is she listening to? i asked her and it was Paper Planes.  from that day on i was hooked i downloaded everything i could find by her.  So the big question is.... Where is that girl called Maya? Who is this girl called Maya?

M.I.A born Mathangi "Maya" Arulpragasm (don't ask me to pronounce it please!) is known for her crazy electronic techno beats mixed with flyyy hip hop gear and swagger. She has been covered (and swagger jacked yea her Rude Boy video is a carbon copy of Boyz by M.I.A!!) by Rhianna, sampled by Jay-Z and nominated for a Grammy.

After giving birth to a baby boy in February of 2009 fiance with Benjamin Zachary Bronfman (aka Benjamin Brewer), environmentalist ex-singer and guitarist for the band The Exit and son of Edgar Bronfman, Jr. the CEO of Warner Music Group.  She took a little hiatus from music and focused on raising her son.  Temporarily living in England in her mothers home because of visa complications.  She tells Luke Crissel during her Nylon interview "....And there is nothing you can do about it.  Anybody in there world who is called the goverment is right.  And anybody who isn't called the goverment is not right....And you know, all the governments are connected to Google, and all the governments can shift their search engines so only what they want you too see comes up" ow this chick has balls! when asked by Nate Denver of Complex What do you think of Hip-Hop today? she answered "I think Kanye is trying to take it into a new realm and hes sort of putting the artistry back into it and sort of taking it in that direction  I was having a conversation about how they were having this Nas vs. Jay-z moment 10 years ago and no one really talks about it now." she continues to say"Jay became the biggest representation of rap music who's still alive and then started dating Beyonce- everything was so much bigger and better with Jay-Z.  I hope people don't think that that wins.  The fact that Nas didn't become all this sort of stuff changes people's perception about the music and the work he achieved in his lifetime" she also responds to rumors of her dissing Kanye West. You'll have to buy the mag to hear the rest!

Now M.I.A. has her own label under Interscope called N.E.E.T. Recordings (http://neetrecordings.com) which includes Baltimore Rapper Rye Rye(http://www.ryeryemusic.com/), Brooklyn Duo Sleigh Bells(http://www.infinitybells.com/) and a digital photographer from Mexico named Jamie Martinez.
Her third album, titled /\/\/\Y/\ (a typographic equivalent to M.I.A.'s legal name of Maya, will be released on June 23 in Japan with bonus tracks, before its release in other countries.  The first official single of /\/\/\Y/\ is called "XXXO" and was released on May 11, 2010. The release date of the album has since been pushed back to July 13th.  her new video for the song "Born Free" has the Internet in an uproar and was banned by YouTube but its constantly being put back up by fans.  the video is a short film that shows a group of red-headed boys being taken by the United States Police and....well just look for yourself!!

Mind Boggling right!! This woman shows no mercy!! I love her music and her political stance on the world!! She is sure to be causing our goverment hell educating the public on the injustice of Global Goverment and their plan to control the media and everything else in it!! Check her out if you don't know and Buy her album!!!

Pilot Talk? Spitta Is Chillen

Dont fear DJ's B-Boys and B-Girls lovers of Hip-Hop!! The game is changing!!! There is a movement taking place now and rising to the forefront. This movement is full of young, inspired, amazing artists! What am I talking about you ask? I'm talking about Dame Dash's Creative Control. Working with artists like Curren$y, Cool Kids, Jay Electronica, Mos Def, Wiz Khalifa and Ski Beatz. The main focus is Curren$y, I must say life for him must be great these days. He's getting regular play on all MTV stations, (side note: I saw a Spitta commercial during The Hills! Dancing Rasins

In today's industry you don't really need talent!! This is painfully obvious with artists like Roscoe Dash. On his new single "Show out", the lyrics are so wack and and incoherent. It honestly sounds like he is rhyming with a steaming pile of shit in his mouth! (remember my blog, my BEAT) but seriously if are over 16 you have no business listening to this gibberish. When did we let this happen?? Its like we just put our Hip-hop on a silver platter and handed it over!

Now, don't get me wrong I listen to Soulja Boy on occasion. He was the first to start this "Dance Rap"(Beat Genre) after he had his first run, all the other teeny bopper dance dudes came out of know where.(Riding his coat tails) I must say I respect him, he put himself "on" and grinds hard. I've seen growth on They're like roaches they don't die they multiply and once they check-in they don't check-out! Demanding that we do the "ricky bobby" and go swag surfin, should these artists be taken seriously?? Or should we move on? Has it ran its course? That's for you to decide but PLEASE DO NOT CALL IT HIP-HOP!!!
THANX FOR LISTENING

Marijuana Music

"Everything better when you're high!" Well according to Wiz Khalifa it is, if you dont know who he is you must be living under a rock or listening to you r radio too much. Turn it off and Check him out Based out of Pittsburgh and tatted down to the socks he combines smooth but powerful Beats with a very unique flow. With songs like UP of his latest mixtape, KushandOrangeJuice. Up is like a pothead's Wedding March Khalifa serenades you over a slow melodic beat. In my opinion one of the best mixtapes I've heard in the last 5 years. Hosted by no D.J and sampling songs that aren't a usual pic for a mixtape, like Loose Ends'"Hangin' on a String" the sexy R&B track he used for The Kid Frankie. Another one of my favorties is The song "Never Been" which samples "Schala's Theme" from the soundtrack to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System role-playing game Chrono Trigger, composed by Yasunori Mitsuda.

Khalifa a self proclaimed stoner makes reference to the magical plant on almost every song, but when you title your mixtape KushandOrangeJuice this should be expected. Some may argue that rapping about pretty women, partying, and weed is nothing new and to some extent you're right. However its the way you say it. Listening to Wiz he seems very natural his raps aren't forced or overly clever, theres no glamor just skills over interesting beats. You feel like he's just telling you what happened last night after his show. The difference is its honest!! Honesty in Hip-Hop, a phenomenon I know. Rappers are so focused with being cocky and lusting for admiration these days, they fail to realize that back in the day artists partied with their fans and really showed love. Khalifa sends that message through his music. Using Twitter, Facebook, and Ustream to connect with his fans, and not just for a place of worship.

Wiz Khalifa is definitely an artist to get familiar with. He's finally getting the recognition he deserves for his talent, with recent interviews on MTV2 and MTVJams. and of course being one XXL magazines Top Ten Freshmen. He is now RUMORED to be signing with Atlantic Records. Hopefully he stays true to himself and doesn't change for the mainstream monkeys. Wiz Khalifa is surely the BEAT I've been looking for. Check out all his music and free your mind people. Dont be afraid to listen.

The Beat The Mission

Hip-Hop is in the state of emergency! The culture is under attack. How did we let this happen?? We meaning the listener, the fan, and most importantly the consumer. we have been "glamorized" by the champaigne sippin', ass shakin, gun blazin, rap of today. what was once special and unique, is now watered down and fake. our music has sold its soul to the devil!! along with the whole industry, trading in simple but powerful BEATS and REAL Mc-ing for fruity loop Boom Boom Clap and melodic whining. Meanwhile the female MC has been reduced to a plastic "BARBIE" who sounds like she spittin nursery rhymes. Reflecting on the current state of Hip-Hop I decided to write how I felt down and it turned into this. I always found myself coming back to "The BEAT" when you first hear a song before the rapper says a word you hear the beat... and if you're like me within 30 seconds you know whether u feeling the song. The BEAT is the foundation of the track, the base for a great MC to show his skills.

I've been searching for a sound that gives me that feeling again. Like Taye Diggs said in Brown Sugar "I miss the way Hip-Hop used to make me feel, It was like AIR" OK so that's hella corny. but it's so true! Remember when they actually played artists like Common and Mos Def on the radio!! I know crazy concept!! Now all we hear are songs like Oh Lets Do It and LOL Smiley Face!! What happened to requesting songs on the radio? I called a very well known Chicago Hip-Hop radio station during the "request hour" and asked them to play Curren$y-Life Under The Scope. The DJ or should I say intern said "WHO?" I said "Curren$y you know The Hot Spitta? from New Orleans. He Replies "Oh you mean that dude that made where da cash at?" I replied yes and he says "Well you want us to just play that?" I hung up...

After that little experience I decided to write this. Its time to pursue the REAL!! Live for THE BEAT!! Support Independent Hip-Hop!! Through my journey to find real music I plan to share everything with you, and all i ask you to do is share it with others.

Thanx For Listening
